All I Want For Christmas Is You
Originally released in 1994, "All I Want For Christmas Is You" has become a true Christmas classic, topping the charts year after year. The song peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2019, where it stayed for three weeks, bringing Mariah's total of number ones to 19.
"All I want for Christmas is you" was the first single from the album "Merry Christmas" and one of the three new Carey-Afanasieff compostions on the album. It was an up-tempo love song, full of images of the Christmas magic that was all too often lost after childhood.
The single was released in November 1994 and became a huge hit in Japan. Therefor it was re-released in October 1996 and again in December 2000.
The video for "All I want for Christmas is you" had been shot the Christmas before, with Tommy Motolla playing Santa Claus. The onehour Mariah Carey Christmas Special, shown on December 14 on MTV, included an alternative video, presented in a black-and-white sixties style, with go-go dancers, backup singers, and Mariah herself, in a minidress, white boots, and teased-up hair, looking for all the world like a member of the Ronettes.
When in December 2000 "All I want for Christmas is you" was rereleased for a third time, a third video was made. This time it was a cartoon.
